The World Architecture Awards shortlist includes 338 projects across 31 categories and hailing from 46 countries, led by Australia, then the UK and Turkey and including major firms such as Foster & Partners, Zaha Hadid, BIG and Herzog & de Meuron.
Among the highlights are Singapore's new Learning Hub at Nanyang Technological University, a cornerless structure designed by Heatherwick Studio; the striking, concrete Cardedeu Chapel in El Salvador by EMC Arquitectura; the streamlined Fulton Center transport hub in New York, designed by Grimshaw; and Sydney's 8 Chifley Square, an ultra-modern office building from Lippmann Partnership/Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners.
The 2014 distinction went to The Chapel, a community space in Vietnam by a21studio.

Concurrent to the WAF is INSIDE World Festival of Interiors, an event that will also recognize the best of the past year. INSIDE has released its own shortlist, honoring interior projects nine categories from 16 countries led by China and Hong Kong, followed by Singapore, Australia and the UK.
Highlights include Seoul's Lotte World Mall from Benoy; The Shepherd's Bush Pavilion Hotel in London from Flanagan Lawrence, noted for its creative re-use of a former cinema; Vivarium restaurant in Thailand, designed by Hypothesis and constructed in a decommissioned warehouse; Singapore's Library@Orchard, a tranquil space in a busy shopping center by New Space Architects; and Australia's Medibank Workplace by HASSELL, which offers employees 26 different "work settings."
Mott 32, a restaurant in Hong Kong designed by Joyce Wang, took the honor in 2014.
